Viking Welding & Fabrication: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Viking-compatible welding and fabrication work across Dallas, with most hinge repairs, bracket rebuilds, and cracked-frame welds running between $285 and $780 installed depending on the size of the break and what the gate is mounted to. We carry Viking-spec weld plates, hinge rebuild kits, and replacement brackets on the truck, so most calls in Dallas are finished in a single visit. What usually brings an owner to this page is a gate that suddenly drags on the drive, a hinge that screams when the opener cycles, or a visible crack running through a welded joint that was fine last season. Texas heat and clay-heavy soil do two things to welded steel gates: they bake the paint off the joints first, then the freeze-thaw cycle of a Dallas winter works water into every pinhole. Once the rust starts inside a weld, the gate flexes more with every cycle, and the crack widens. We see it most on the hinge-side post and the bottom rail corners.
One note before we go further: Vance Gate Repair is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Viking, but we work on Viking gates and Viking-driven systems every week, and we keep the fabrication bench set up for Viking’s specific hinge geometry and post dimensions.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
Viking gate hardware shows up on two distinct classes of Dallas properties: the ornamental steel driveway gates on older Highland Park and Lakewood homes, and the heavier cantilever and slide gates on light commercial lots along corridors like Northwest Highway and Harry Hines. The fabrication needs are different, and so is the part matching.
For ornamental Viking swing gates, the fabrication points that fail are the weld-on hinge barrels, the lower hinge plate, and the corner welds where the top rail meets the stile. Viking uses a specific hinge barrel diameter, typically 3/4-inch pin on residential swing gates, and the hinge leaf spacing is drilled to match the original post plate. We match the measurement off the old hinge before we cut anything. On Viking slide and cantilever gates, the common fabrication item is the steel carrier plate and the welded stops, which take a beating from the rollers every single cycle.
OEM Viking weld components exist, but here is what we tell every Dallas owner: the aftermarket plates we fabricate in-house are cut from the same gauge steel or heavier, and they are welded with better penetration than most factory tack jobs we have cut off. We have pulled factory Viking hinges that were tacked in three places and had been flexing for a decade. The honest recommendation is this: if the hinge itself is being reused, OEM is fine. If the bracket is being rebuilt, a fabricated replacement from 1/4-inch plate will outlast the original.
Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

- The gate sags toward the latch side and the gap at the latch post widens by half an inch or more. A sagging Viking swing gate almost always means the lower hinge weld has started to crack or the hinge pin has wallowed out the barrel. The gate weight now rides on the upper hinge, which accelerates the failure.
- You hear a metallic creak or pop when the opener starts pulling. That pop is the sound of a cracked weld flexing under load. Each cycle works the crack a little deeper, and in Dallas humidity swings, the rust inside the crack expands and jacks it open faster.
- The gate shudders or bounces when the motor reverses direction. On Viking slide gates, a loose carrier plate or a worn welded stop lets the gate shift a quarter inch at each reversal. The motor fights that slop every time, and the limit switch calibration drifts.
- You see rust staining running down from a joint or a hairline crack at a corner weld. Surface rust is cosmetic. A rust stain that starts at a welded joint and runs down the steel means water is inside the weld itself. That is a structural problem, not a paint problem.
- The gate was hit, scraped, or caught a wheelbarrow or trailer, and now it leans or drags. Even a slow-speed impact bends hinge plates and cracks the welds at the stile. The gate may still cycle, but every cycle works the damage wider.
Before
AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Most Viking welding and fabrication jobs in Dallas land between $285 and $780 installed, and the price is written and agreed before we strike an arc. The range breaks down like this:
- Single hinge rebuild or bracket replacement: $285-$395. This covers cutting off the failed hinge or bracket, fabricating a replacement to match the Viking geometry, welding it in place, and dressing the weld clean.
- Corner weld repair with gusset plate: $340-$520. We weld the crack, then add a gusset plate so the joint is stronger than it was from the factory.
- Full gate frame repair with realignment and hinge work on a two-leaf Viking setup: $600-$780. This is the job where both leaves come off, the frame is straightened, every weld is inspected, and the gate goes back up cycling clean.
Every quote includes the steel, the weld consumables, the grinding and dressing, and a coat of cold-galv primer on every weld before we leave. You get the written price before we start, under Haven Standard Clause 1. When the job is done, you get a photo record of every weld before and after paint, so you can point to exactly what was done. And if that weld does not hold for a full year, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?

Here is the honest line. You can safely check the hinge pins for play with the gate in the open position and the opener disengaged. You can photograph the welds and watch for hairline cracks. What you should not do is weld on a gate that is still mounted to an automated opener. A gate under spring tension or sitting on a cantilever carrier can shift while you are cutting the old weld, and that is how fingers get crushed and gates come down on people. We have seen Dallas garages try to MIG a cracked hinge in place, fry the opener’s control board because the welding current backfed through the ground, and end up with a bigger invoice than the original repair.
Welding is also a learned skill, not a weekend project. A bad weld looks solid for a season, then fails without warning. If the gate is over a driveway where kids, dogs, or cars pass underneath, that is not a risk worth taking. Call (469) 299-5902 and we will send a documented quote for the full repair. If you are already holding a written estimate from another Dallas shop, bring it, and we will review it with you at no charge before you decide.
FAQs
A properly fabricated hinge or bracket on a Viking gate in Dallas should last 10 to 15 years before the weld needs attention, and the hinge pin itself may go 8 to 10 years before it wallows out. What shortens that lifespan is water intrusion at the weld and vibration from an opener that was never limit-adjusted. We see Viking gates in Highland Park that were welded in the 1990s and are still solid, and we see gates installed five years ago with cracked corners because the factory tack welds were never dressed and sealed. Call (469) 299-5902 for an inspection if your gate is older than a decade or if you can see rust at any joint.
Small crack repairs and single hinge replacements can usually be welded in place, as long as the gate is blocked and the opener is disconnected. A full frame repair or a two-leaf realignment means the gate comes off the hinges and goes onto horses, because we cannot get proper penetration on an overhead weld with the gate hanging. We tell you which one your job is in the written quote, before any work starts.
Most single-hinge and bracket repairs in Dallas are finished in 3 to 4 hours on site. A full gate frame repair with realignment spans 6 to 8 hours. The welded joint needs to cool before we grind and dress it, and we do not rush that. You will have a written price in hand before we strike the first arc, and the photo record is ready before we leave the driveway.
We roll with Viking-spec hinge barrels, 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch plate steel, gusset stock, and a range of roller and carrier components on the truck, so most Dallas calls are one visit. For larger fabrication runs, we cut and prep the steel in the shop and bring it out ready to weld. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems when the repair involves the opener side of the gate.
Name what you found. Name what it costs. Name what you left behind.
