It’s the steel the motor mounts to: the post bracket, the gate bracket, or the hinge tabs that carry the entire weight of the gate leaf.

The compatibility gotcha most Dallas owners hit when ordering replacement steel online: Mighty Mule changed their post-bracket bolt pattern between the FM-series and MM-series. An FM200 bracket has a different hole spacing than an MM372 bracket, and buying the wrong one means drilling new holes in a gate post that may already be compromised. We measure the bolt pattern and the gate-leaf weight before cutting anything, then match the bracket to the exact model number stamped on the opener’s control board cover. Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• Visible rust bleeding from the bracket bolt holes. This is the earliest tell in Dallas humidity cycles. Once water gets between the bracket and the post, the steel is corroding from the inside out, and the bracket is losing cross-section under the bolt heads.

• A sudden clunk when the gate reverses direction. That’s the bracket shifting against the post or the gate leaf, which means the bolts are wallering out their holes because the steel around them is gone.
